Fremont County, Idaho
Henry's Fork cabins and Idaho's hardest winters
Fremont County climbs from the farm valley around St. Anthony to the high country at Island Park, near 6,300 feet by the Yellowstone line. That elevation buys some of the longest, coldest winters in Idaho, and wood floors feel every bit of it. A cabin that sits empty and unheated for weeks, then gets cranked to seventy for a holiday, puts its floor through a brutal humidity swing. Solid wood answers by shrinking hard in the dry cold and swelling back when heat and summer moisture return. Get the species, board width or expansion gaps wrong and the floor gaps like venetian blinds in January. So species choice is the first conversation on a Fremont County job, not the last. Narrower boards and engineered construction move less and forgive these swings far better than wide solid planks. For cabins that cycle cold, engineered hardwood over a stable subfloor is usually the answer, acclimated on site before we fasten anything. Down in St. Anthony and Ashton, the housing is older farmhouses and town homes with fir and oak that refinish well. Fine sand blowing off the St. Anthony dunes gets tracked indoors and scours the finish, so entries there need tough topcoats and a recoat schedule. We moisture-test and acclimate on every job, because the mountains give no margin for a rushed install.
On the ground
From St. Anthony dunes to Island Park cabins
St. Anthony is the county seat, platted after an 1887 bridge crossed the Henry's Fork at the falls, and today it's the gateway to the St. Anthony Sand Dunes. Those dunes, the largest in Idaho, feed fine sand that rides indoors on shoes and acts like grit on a floor's finish. US-20 is the spine of the county, running north past Ashton, where the first train arrived in 1906, and on to Island Park along the Mesa Falls Scenic Byway. Island Park, incorporated in 1947 and famous for its long Main Street, is mostly cabins and vacation rentals near Henrys Lake and Big Springs that sit cold between stays. Our work splits by elevation. Up high it's engineered installs and repair of cold-cycled floors in cabins; down in the valley it's refinishing farmhouse fir, recoating sand-worn entries, and new installs in St. Anthony and Ashton homes. Because these are long drives, we deliver flooring early to acclimate, moisture-test before fastening, and plan the trip so on-site days stay tight. Every estimate is measured and written on site.
What we do here
Flooring services in Fremont County
Cabin & Mountain Home
Island Park cabins sit cold for weeks, then heat fast for a weekend; we install and acclimate engineered floors built to ride those swings without gapping or buckling.
DetailsEngineered Hardwood
Engineered plank is the safer choice for Fremont County's high-elevation homes, moving far less than solid wood through the valley's dry cold and summer humidity.
DetailsWood Flooring Installation
New hardwood for St. Anthony and Ashton homes, with species and board width chosen for big seasonal movement and acclimated on site before the first board.
DetailsHardwood Floor Refinishing
Dust-contained sanding restores farmhouse fir and oak in the valley, and screen-and-recoats refresh entries scoured by fine sand off the St. Anthony dunes.
DetailsCupped & Buckled Repair
Cabins left to freeze and thaw often cup or buckle; we trace the moisture, let the floor stabilize, then flatten or replace the sections that moved.
DetailsHardwood Floor Repair
We close the wide winter gaps, re-seat loose boards and fix squeaks in Ashton and St. Anthony homes, blending each repair into the surrounding floor.
DetailsLVP & LVT Flooring
Waterproof LVP handles the mudrooms and entries of cabins and valley homes, standing up to snowmelt, sand and the wet gear that comes off the Henry's Fork.

K Lee, thank you for trusting us with your home and flooring. I am glad you are happy with the floors — you were a pleasure to work for.
“Wood Flooring Idaho just finished our floors and they are beautiful! We had oak in the kitchen and wanted it extended into the dining room — their answer was “No Problem.” You absolutely cannot tell where they joined the new flooring with the old. They removed our tile entryway and replaced it with oak. Tyler is professional, particular and hardworking.”

FAQ
Fremont County flooring questions
What flooring holds up in an Island Park cabin that sits empty all winter?
Engineered hardwood or quality LVP, not wide solid planks. A cabin that freezes for weeks then heats fast for a visit swings hard in humidity, and solid wood gaps or buckles under that. Engineered boards are built in layers that move far less, so they stay flat through the cycle. We acclimate the material on site before fastening it.
Our St. Anthony entry finish is worn dull — is it the dune sand?
Very likely. Fine sand off the St. Anthony dunes tracks in and grinds the finish like sandpaper, dulling the first few feet fast. A walk-off mat helps, and a screen-and-recoat refreshes the topcoat before the wear reaches bare wood. That's far cheaper than a full refinish — call (844) 954-6342.
Is it worth the drive from Idaho Falls for a Fremont County job?
Yes — we work the county regularly, about 50 minutes up US-20. For the distance, we plan tightly: material is delivered early to acclimate, we moisture-test before fastening, and we keep on-site days compact. Estimates are free and written, measured on your floor rather than guessed over the phone.
